Maidenhair Fern

Adiantum raddianum

Maidenhair Fern is a popular indoor plant valued for its delta maidenhair fern. It naturally occurs in Tropical Americas and can adapt well to home conditions when its light, watering, and humidity needs are respected.

Basic Care

  • Light: Bright Indirect.
  • Water: High. Check the potting mix before watering rather than following a fixed calendar.
  • Humidity: High.
  • Temperature: 65–80°F (18–27°C).
  • Soil: Use a moisture-retentive but airy indoor potting mix with good drainage.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertilizer during active growth, following the product label.

Growth and Safety

Growth is typically moderate. Grown primarily for its foliage; indoor flowering is uncommon or secondary. Generally regarded as non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Propagation

Usually propagated from stem cuttings, division, offsets, or another method appropriate to the species.

Plantify tip: Adjust watering to the plant’s light level, pot size, season, and drying speed. Good drainage is one of the simplest ways to prevent common indoor-plant problems.
