Burro’s Tail

Sedum morganianum

Burro’s Tail is a popular indoor plant valued for its donkey tail. It naturally occurs in Mexico and can adapt well to home conditions when its light, watering, and humidity needs are respected.

Basic Care

  • Light: Bright Indirect.
  • Water: Low. Check the potting mix before watering rather than following a fixed calendar.
  • Humidity: Low.
  • Temperature: 60–80°F (16–27°C).
  • Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining cactus or succulent mix.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertilizer during active growth, following the product label.

Growth and Safety

Growth is typically moderate. Grown primarily for its foliage; indoor flowering is uncommon or secondary. Generally regarded as non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Propagation

Often propagated from leaf or stem cuttings, offsets, or division depending on the species.

Plantify tip: Adjust watering to the plant’s light level, pot size, season, and drying speed. Good drainage is one of the simplest ways to prevent common indoor-plant problems.
